Little Paxton - The Hub - The Norris Museum

Screen printing workshop in a garden opposite the new community Hub in Little Paxton.   This workshop was sponsored by the Norris Museum as part of their community outreach program.   We used a modified version of the Hub’s logo as a frame and we asked people  to draw something that they would really like to see in a museum. We had so many great results:

I don't have favourites - as you can see I love them all - but this one has a  special place in place in my heart - it's just so happy!

And 'grown ups' could take part too.

There was a very neighbourly friendliness to the whole day, culminating in the generous sharing of a great hamper of fruit that someone won at the raffle. What better way to spend a Saturday than printmaking outdoors amongst a bunch of lovely people?

T-shirt workshop, St Ives

Half term at the Norris Museum, St Ives.  Well, not actually at the Norris itself, as it's closed for building work, but as near as possible ie the Methodist Hall across the road.  I notice that nowadays anything temporary is called 'pop-up'.  So perhaps we could call this a 'pop-up museum' event or something similar

Anyway, it was another energetic drop in, pop- up, open access workshop where people came and did drawings of artefacts or models and screen printed them onto T-shirts or bags.  I think we printed 95 unique designs and here a few that I managed to photograph.

A special thanks to the museum volunteers and education officer for their tireless hard work, great cutting and sorting skills, tea and general enthusiasm!

T-shirt Print Workshop

Did a workshop with Soham Well Being Group, printing T-shirts on a very hot summer's evening.  What was really nice about the group was the friendliness across the age range - from 16 to 40 (you can probably see that in the variety of designs).  It was a small group so we had lots of time to really play with the repeats and make these unique and personal T-shirts.  I hope you're all wearing them!

Arbury carnival costumes, puppets

More from Arbury Carnival:

Fishy hats - (this one's Nemo) and Alfred Wallace style placard paintings

This year's giant!  It's an octopus!

Dawn, Cary and Hugh with lots of help made this seagull - currently having an emergency repair just before the parade!

Watch out for those chips!
Thanks to Karen from Kettles Yard for raising funds and being such a great hands on organiser.  And to my 2 co-artists - Sandra and Cary.  And to all the kids and parents who took part in the making and wearing and general blowing of bubbles!

T-shirt print - Norris Museum

We had a brilliant T-shirt printing day yesterday at the Norris Museum.

We printed about 110 T-shirts with children- each one different.  The weather was perfect and as you can see we worked outside in the lovely gardens.  The children drew things in the museum or in the garden and Cary and I helped them to print these onto there T-shirts.  Thanks to Gilly and the team of museum volunteers for making this such a successful day.

It looks like I was doing all the printing in this picture- but the children all participated in the printing process - even the very tiny ones.

And there's always that moment of magic when they see their designs transformed into colour!

T-shirts - Youth Festival

As well as working with Community Carts youth clubs on their banners for the annual Talent Show,  Cary and I did a "Print your own T-shirts" workshop at the "Jump into Spring" Youth Festival. The great thing about T-shirt printing is that it gets peole involved who don't usually 'do art', or textiles for that matter- like boys..........

I always spell it "t-shirt" but apparently both are correct.

I think that pretty much sums up what being a 13 year old boy is all about!

Umm, sorry, I forgot about football
