Textiles East

This weekend, we had a small exhibition space at the Textiles East Show in Newmarket. It was wonderful to see some of the work from our classes up on display and we had really great feedback.

Histon Feast Print Workshop

Another busy and popular screen print workshop at Histon Library for the Histon and Impington Feast day.  I will let the pictures speak for themselves:

Here's a great description from Cath who organised the project: "So, nearly 60 took part: lots of children, little ones helped by parents, and all ages up to eighty plus, a few keen artists but mostly people who had never done anything like this before and were thrilled with their success. Watch out for our bags around the village!"

Thanks to the Friends of Histon Library for organising this. Keep an eye out for their book sales - they have a massive collection of very good books!

T-shirt workshop, St Ives

Half term at the Norris Museum, St Ives.  Well, not actually at the Norris itself, as it's closed for building work, but as near as possible ie the Methodist Hall across the road.  I notice that nowadays anything temporary is called 'pop-up'.  So perhaps we could call this a 'pop-up museum' event or something similar

Anyway, it was another energetic drop in, pop- up, open access workshop where people came and did drawings of artefacts or models and screen printed them onto T-shirts or bags.  I think we printed 95 unique designs and here a few that I managed to photograph.

A special thanks to the museum volunteers and education officer for their tireless hard work, great cutting and sorting skills, tea and general enthusiasm!

Kite Making was Epic!

 

As you can see by this comments feedback board we had a very good Family Learning Day - making kites and printing T-shirts on Saturday at Cottenham Village College!  and some delicious aromas from the cake baking group!

T-shirt print - Norris Museum

We had a brilliant T-shirt printing day yesterday at the Norris Museum.

We printed about 110 T-shirts with children- each one different.  The weather was perfect and as you can see we worked outside in the lovely gardens.  The children drew things in the museum or in the garden and Cary and I helped them to print these onto there T-shirts.  Thanks to Gilly and the team of museum volunteers for making this such a successful day.

It looks like I was doing all the printing in this picture- but the children all participated in the printing process - even the very tiny ones.

And there's always that moment of magic when they see their designs transformed into colour!
