Cottenham summer school 2015

I think it's been 17 years since I first started teaching Screen printing at Cottenham Summer School and each year my students amaze me both with their creativity and their productivity!

So, here is some of the wonderful work by adult learners on the Sensational Screen Print course this year, 2015, at Cottenham Summer School.

Frustratingly I realise that I took far fewer photos this year so there's lots of textiles that I  don't have pictures of...........but here is some of what I do have:

Thorney Wall Hangings

Another community project with Thorney Museum.  Volunteers from the lunch club have been stitching these marvelous banners which went on display for the first time a few weeks ago.  There are more to come as annd when they get finished.

T-shirt printing

T-shirt printing with Mid Suffolk HOPS 

Holiday playscheme for young people with disabilities and additional needs.  Some children created their own designs and printed them.  We wanted everyone to have a T-shirt to take home so we created some special designs with the HOPS logo for children who didn't want to design their own.

This one is for a little girl who loves being in the ball pond.

I can't remember what BBCGL stands for, so it will have to remain a secret.

This is how Aliens make more Aliens.

Arbury Carnival 2015

Despite the rain, Arbury Carnival was wonderful this year.  Sandra Scott, Cary  and myself, the wonderful volunteers from the Arbury Carnival Committee and from Kettles Yard worked with young people at Nunn's Way Pavilion and in local schools and community groups to do costumes, banners and giant puppets.   The theme this year.......well you can probably tell.

Flying the Flag for Good Mental Health

Jane Frost has been creating a wonderful art-filled courtyard garden for Arts and Mind . It is in a specialist therapeutic facility for children and families.  

Jane asked me to make some flags that would bring colour and movement to the garden.  We had some ripstop nylon and, well....... the colour were irresistable!  

 

Here we have a test flight!

The designs are drawn from some beautiful screen printed bunting made by the children in  workshops - I don't have a picture of these so you'll have to trust me on that.

This whole project has been made possible by funding from Children in Need.

Families can have fun making their own kites on Saturday, May 2.
Local Textiles artist Ricki Outis is hosting family kite making workshops at Haddenham Galleries.

Lets go fly a kite! But first we have to make a kite to fly.
The theme is ‘Fearsome Faces, Funny Faces’ – you design the features to create your own unique flying kite with a chance to test fly and troubleshoot – these kites really do fly.

Screen Printed Book

What to do with all those test prints, demo prints and scraps of fabric that have 'gone wrong'?  Well as a great lover of books as magical objects in their own right, here is my solution:

Felting Studio
5 fabulous felting mornings at Cottenham Village College.

This 5 week guided study to wet felting will be great for beginners but also an opportunity for those with more experience to try out some new ideas and be inspired.

 We will revisit the basics - richly textured panels, nuno felt,
lattices,scarves and ruffles. More experienced learners will be shown ways to develop more complex surfaces and forms.
