Cottenham Textiles Class

Fortnightly Textile Class at Cottenham Village College:

We have the best ever group of textile explorers who meet every second Tuesday in a class which we (unimaginitively) call "Creative Textiles" or sometimes, just "Tuesday Textiles"

This class is for those who are, or would like to be, textile explorers and makers of fabulous fabrics. It’s an opportunity to give yourself some dedicated time to nurture your creativity and to develop textiles that are personal, poetic, and fun. People with all levels of experience (or none) are welcome.

Starts Tuesday 26th September
for 5 weeks (26th Sept, 10th, 31st October, 14th,
28th November)
10am—3.30pm

Dyeing the Blues

I usually like to focus on a theme for a term, and the January term at Cottenham Village College will be all about 'Dyeing the Blues'.  Mostly it will be about indigo blues, but we will be venturing down some other blue avenues too.

Basically this hands-on class is for people who want to explore textiles with like--minded
people.

Each person will make a mini indigo VAT to dye their fabrics in; we’ll do shibori—folded, bound, scrunched and stitched resists patterns; and we'll try combining these with iron salts to create some great contrasts. Continuing with the blue theme, we’ll also make photograms with cyanotype (blueprint fabric). And finally, we will assemble our various pieces and overlay them with sashiko stitching.

Everyone is welcome to this creative and experimental class, no matter what your skill level or experience is. The only requirements are an open mind and an interest in textiles. Beginners are very welcome.

Classes will be fortnightly, starting on 11 Jan 2022 and there will be 6 sessions in all. Each class is from 10am to 3.30pm, so you can really get lots of work done.
