Screen Print Classes, Cambridgeshire

Prickwillow ArtSpace

Screen Print Sundays

I think it's good for the soul to have a day away from the computer, being creative with other people, sharing ideas, learning new things, spreading colour, developing patterns.....

Screen Print Sundays will be going ahead at Prickwillow Artspace:

The next 2 sessions are on the 1st October 23 and the 5th November 23.  You can book for 1 day, or both

Come along with a pile of plain fabrics and leave with a bunch of colourful prints that you can sew into a quilt, cushion cover  or curtain.  Or, if you prefer, you can print on T-shirts, bags, tea-towels or other ready mades.

Emphasis, as always, is on the experimental, creating bold and colourful prints on fabric.

And, it's probably a good time to start printing up some Xmas presents.

This is suitable for anyone new to screen printing and an opportunity for those who have printed before to learn some new techniques and to work in a studio environment. It is primarily an adult class but you are welcome to bring a young person over the age of 12 if you want to work together.

ArtSpace is our new studio in an old church in the village of Prickwillow which is about 5 miles from Ely. We think of it as a space to make, together.

Cottenham Cold Water Dyes

Saturday day school at Cottenham Village College:

Dyeing  with Cold Water Procion Dyes

Saturday 23 September

10am—4pm

These are exceptionally bright professional dyes which, although being synthetic, are safe to use for the home dyer and have minimal environmental impact.

Procions are used for bright tie- dyes; for developing your own quilting fabrics; and for backgrounds for printing and stitch.

Learning to manipulate dye colours is very liberating. It's a place where art and science meet. I am not particularly mathematically minded but when it comes to colour, I do get excited and find that having done proper colour studies, I am able to mix my own colours in a much more intuitive way.

The morning session will be an opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of cold water dyes, including the creation of several colours from different primaries. This will be a methodical study to create a colour wheel. The afternoon will be a free and easy session to use some of the wonderful colours by tie dyeing, space dying, scrunching and dripping.

Actually, this is the sort of thing that's good to do in an art room where there's no danger of getting spills on your kitchen counter or drips on your carpet!
