Saturday day school at Cottenham Village College:
Dyeing with Cold Water Procion Dyes
Saturday 23 September
10am—4pm
These are exceptionally bright professional dyes which, although being synthetic, are safe to use for the home dyer and have minimal environmental impact.
Procions are used for bright tie- dyes; for developing your own quilting fabrics; and for backgrounds for printing and stitch.
Learning to manipulate dye colours is very liberating. It's a place where art and science meet. I am not particularly mathematically minded but when it comes to colour, I do get excited and find that having done proper colour studies, I am able to mix my own colours in a much more intuitive way.
The morning session will be an opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of cold water dyes, including the creation of several colours from different primaries. This will be a methodical study to create a colour wheel. The afternoon will be a free and easy session to use some of the wonderful colours by tie dyeing, space dying, scrunching and dripping.
Actually, this is the sort of thing that's good to do in an art room where there's no danger of getting spills on your kitchen counter or drips on your carpet!
